EEFG1501 Heljan Class 15 Laserglaze Kit

This is the kit for the Heljan Class 15 in 4mm scale. For the side windows you can leave the original glazing centre bar in place, or remove it as we have in our example above. Today we have added a new page to list the Laserglaze products, this will be added to in due course as new items are added to the range. https://shawplan.wordpress.com/laserglaze-product-list-20th-february-2012/

In tooling in the workshop are the window sets for the Hornby/Lima class 73, these should be available at Nottingham show in Mid-March. We also are hoping to have the first test shots of a new addition to the Laserglaze which we are often asked for.

Laserglaze Heljan Class 26 with closed window

Over the past few weeks we have been doing more development of our ranges, and are pleased to announce two new introductions to the laserglaze product range. Firstly by popular demand the glasing for the Heljan 4mm scale class 26 has been produced. There are options within the kit to produce a locomotive with open cabside windows, or with closed windows as per the original model. The test model had a plated over door window, however for those of you modelling a cab door with windows, these are supplied on the fret. Note as well the open discs from the extreme etchings range. Secondly the GWR Dia N13 horsebox by Hornby, see the ‘heritage page for further information.

Bachmann 08 Ref EEFG0802 Price Code G

Today we are pleased to announce the release of the 4mm scale Laserglaze window kit for the Bachmann 08. This has taken a little while to tool up as we have found that there are two different sizes for the cab front windows, i.e. those facing the bonnet. To overcome this we have provided both sizes on the fret. Currently this kit will provide glasing for one locomotive with the large droplight cab side window, and rounded corner door windows, so these suit the later build batches of the 08’s. We are anticipating tooling the small cabside window with square corner door windows in the near future. These variations will be added to the fret once tooled.

Lima GUV Test glasing fit

This is the latest Laserglaze kit which is designed for the Hornby and Lima 4mm scale CCT models. The catalogue number is EELG4007, Price code ‘F’. We have test fitted it to the Lima GUV, see image above, and found that it is also suitable as replacement glazing for that model. We will add the GUV very soon, each pack contains sufficient windows for one vehicle. The Lima and Hornby glazing have the internal bars molded to the glazing, we will be drawing an etch for those bars in the near future.

Over the summer we have been working on developing the Laserglaze range and are pleased to show the set as fitted to a ViTrains Class 47.

ViTrains Class 47, Laserglaze Windows/Extreme Etchings Fan/Shawplan Nameplates

Due to the way that different manufacturers produce their models we have seen subtle variations in the shapes of the transparencies required. The set here is designed specifically for the Vitrains model, and is a ‘Plug and Play’ concept.

ViTrains Class 47 Laserglaze Windows/Extreme Etchings fan/Shawplan Nameplates

The ‘Plug and Play’ idea gives you, the modeller, the opportunity to purchase a set of glazing that will fit your model with the minimum of effort. The only additional work that has been undertaken is the addition of the cabside droplight partition from microstrip. Final design work is taking place on the way we produce them to ensure an efficient and cost effective manufacturing process. We anticipate availability of the ViTrains class 47 glazing at the Wigan show, and further work is being undertaken to produce sets for the Bachmann and Heljan class 47 models.

Please note: all the above images are of the pre production samples and are quite simply ‘pushed in’ to the window apertures and have yet to be fixed in place permanently although the fit is that precise that glueing is hardly neccessary!

Laserglaze is a new product range for 2010. The Shawplan team are working on a number of laser cut projects to enable improvement of current ready to run railway models, and some of the better products from earlier years, for example Airfix and Lima MKII coaches. Initially the range will cover British Rail diesel and electric traction era’s concentrating on diesel and electric locomotives and British Rail designed coaching stock. This will include up to the present day. Consideration is already under way to include some of the ‘Grouping’ era stock and locomotives, as there are overlaps for pre British Rail era stock into the more recent time periods. The range is likely to be available in single coach sets as ‘train’ packs with a discounted price. As formations varied from era to era and region to region the customer will likely be able to specify the coach sets required to meet their particular train formation.

If the prototype had tinted glazing all endeavours will be made to provide tinted inserts, helping improve the scale appearance of the models which is one of the core requirements of the Laserglaze range. Two different types are being considered, simple ‘plug and play’ which will be the replacement of exisiting glazing, with minimum repainting and modelling time expended.

Laserglaze 4mm Hornby 08

Some of the products will have a more advanced system available, for example the etch windscreen and laser cut glazing transparencies already available for the Class 37 and class 50, please see our Extreme Etchings page for further information.
